Ex tinnitus sufferer and medical researcher reveals the real causes of tinnitus in this article.

The nerves of the ear serve the function of generating electric signals which are received by the brain. The signals are originated by the pressures of the external waves of sound, that come in contact with the highly sensitive, small-sized hairs that are located in the inner regions of the ear. These signals are interpreted as sound by the brain. However, such smooth processing of sound by the brain gets interrupted in cases where the hairs of the inner ear are destroyed or deformed in some way. In such a scenario, all that the brain receives are abnormal noises, like the sounds of a whistle, a ring, or a simple whoosh. These noises are, in turn, transferred to the ear, as a result of which, the affected person gets to listen these weird sounds. When a person hears these strange sounds, in the absence of any likely source for them, tinnitus is what is affecting him/her.

There are certain triggers of tinnitus that are often mistaken as the actual causes. An open mind is required while analyzing an extremely problematic disease, like tinnitus, particularly since it can happen from several causes. As an example, let us consider sinus disorders. Such problems are not among the chief underlying factors of tinnitus. Rather, it is only a trigger of the disease. Among the actual, and most important causes of tinnitus is an elevated blood pressure, and this happens due to a wrong lifestyle. These problems can be treated only through the holistic approach.

Cause of Tinnitus: A Closer Look At Some Causal Factors

Excess stress-levels or a depressed state of mind: Tinnitus can occur even when one or both the ears is apparently okay, and medical tests also do nothing to prove otherwise. Such problems, brought about by excessive stress, can be solved only via a holistic approach to treatment, and adoption of a healthy lifestyle.

Benign Tumor: Also known as Acoustic Neuroma, these tumors often result in tinnitus as well. The cranial nerve that connects the inner ear with the brain, and helps people hear as well as maintain a perfect balance, usually bears these tumors. They cause tinnitus in one of the ears of patients, and the condition is also known as Vestibular Schwannoma.

Factors related to Menieres disease: Tinnitus is also often brought about by this problem, which affects the functioning of the internal regions of the ear. A characteristic ear fluid exerts pressure, and this, in many cases can be a direct cause of tinnitus.

Damages in head and/or neck regions : Such injuries often affect the system of nerves adversely, and can hamper the proper functioning of these nerves. The brain, as a result, also suffers an impact, and tinnitus problems often make an appearance.

Factors related to old age : As a person grows senile, (s)he can totally, or partially, lose his/her powers to listen. This phenomenon becomes apparent after a person crosses 60 years of age, and is medically known as Presbycusis.

Having to hear sounds at high volumes: This is also a probable cause. If a person has to continuously hear noises at extremely high pitches, a constant ringing noise seems to be audible to him/her, even when there exists no such source. For example, this is common in people who are employed in stamping mills or forging jobs. Tinnitus problems can also result from the shot guns that are rather heavy, and have to be placed on the shoulder for firing. Also, if individuals are constantly exposed to the loud beats of music at night clubs, they are prone to tinnitus attacks.

Deposits of ear wax: If ear wax gets accumulated in the ear over time, it might cross the prescribed maximum level. When this limit is crossed, tinnitus problems may crop up.

Narrower blood vessels : Also termed clinically as Atherosclerosis, this change in the shape of the blood vessels in the middle or the inner parts of the ear can be brought about by excess accumulation of cholesterol. This can, in many cases, result in tinnitus. When affected in this manner, blood vessels cannot account for the sounds. As a result, noise impulses like hissing and whooshing can be heard, along with other pulsating sounds.

Elevated levels of blood pressure : A high blood pressure level can also cause tinnitus, in much the same way as discussed in the previous point. Arteries, when they have excess amounts of cholesterol accumulated in them, cannot supply blood to the neck and the head ” the main cause of the problem. However, this problem can be eliminated at an early stage, with the holistic treatment approach.

Tumor formation in the neck and/or head : The blood vessels of the human neck and head (i.e., the vascular neoplasm) experience an increased pressure due to these tumors. As a result, tinnitus problems may come up.

Malformation of the Arteriovenous system : If the connecting channels of the arteries and veins are not right, the problem is called AVM (Arteriovenous Malformation). Tinnitus caused due to this factor generally affects one of the ears of individuals.

Cause of Tinnitus ” A Look at Some Medicines With Adverse Effects

There are certain types of medicinal drugs that can bring about tinnitus problems. In fact, some of such medicines can increase the intensity of the disease as well.

Let is now look into some of the types of drugs that can probably be blamed for tinnitus problems:

Group of antibiotics, like erythromycin, vancomycin, chloramphenicol, tetracycline and bleomycin.

Cancer-treating drugs (e.g. Vincristine and Mechlorethamine).

Ethacrynic acid, furosemide, bumetanide and such other diuretic medications.

Quinine drugs, which are widely prescribed to treat malarial problems, and other diseases of a similar nature.

Even aspirin can result in giving rise to constant ringing sounds in the ear, particularly if individuals are in the habit of taking high doses of the medicines, and that too, over a long time.

The term multilateral disorder is associated with tinnitus precisely due to the fact that, it can be caused by many factors. All the underlying reasons of the problems have to be properly detected so that a cure from the disease can be obtained. However, conventional modes of medications seldom reach deep enough to detect the chief problem-creating factors. Only the symptoms of the disease are treated, accounting for the extremely low rate of success. Unlike these methods, the holistic mode of treatment considers the entire body to be a single unit, and suggest medicines accordingly. Wholesale lifestyle changes as well as the application of products derived from herbs are recommended. Since the holistic way of treating tinnitus tries to locate the major causes of the problem, and then treat them accordingly, it has met with widespread success.
