Chiropractic therapy is a holistic therapy that focuses on how the musculoskeletal structure of the body affects the body as a whole, including the central nervous system. The main idea with chiropractic therapy is to diminish aches and pains and to allow the body to naturally heal any problems. The way this is done is by a chiropractor manipulating certain areas of the body, such as muscles and the skeleton, and especially the spine.

The theory behind chiropractic therapy is that when vertebrate are poorly aligned, this causes blockages along the spinal column’s nerve bundles. This is called subluxation. These are considered a disorder even if they don’t cause any pain.

Now everything in ones body occurs due to the nervous system, therefore when there is a blockage in the nerves path literally every area and aspect of our body is affected. The body is greatly dependant upon a fully functioning nervous system, and those who practice chiropractic medicines believe once subluxation occurs, it will lead to illnesses also.

Chiropractic therapy is often used to treat overt pain symptoms, such as back or neck pain, or migraine headaches. Chiropractic therapy is often prescribed when there has been overt trauma like having been a car accident victim, or if one suffers from joint pain like that occurring in the knee or shoulder, or other musculoskeletal pain. Oftentimes though, chiropractic therapy can improve someone’s health overall, even if they don’t feel particularly “sick.”

Chiropractic therapy does not only treat spinal pains or headaches; it can be extremely beneficial to those who suffer from disorders such as asthma, carpal tunnel, PMS, or tons more. Even without trauma subluxations can occur due to tension or stress. Spinal realignment can diminish subluxations which in turn can offer relief to those who suffer from things like asthma and PMS. The underlying idea is that with a clear running nervous system, many disorders will be offered relief.

The first time someone visits a chiropractor, the chiropractor will perform an evaluation whereby a complete medical history is taken, including discussion of lifestyle and whether or not someone exercises on a regular basis. A physical exam is also performed, and a diagnosis is made of any problems the patient may have so that proper treatment is prescribed.

What’s most important to realize about chiropractic therapy is that it is noninvasive and requires no drugs, and simply seeks to return the body to stasis. That is, instead of covering up symptoms, it seeks to determine the cause of those symptoms, take care of the cause, and have the body in effect heal itself as a result of the treatment given. It can make a marked improvement on, if not cure, most disorders in this way. In some cases, it’s used in tandem with other medical treatments as well, whereby a medical doctor and a chiropractor may consult together to prescribe a specific course of treatment for a particular patient.
