How to Reduce Cold

People take different kinds measures to ensure that they do not get colds but end up getting them anyway. Antibiotics have been so far unable to treat viruses completely but one can use other available methods to reduce the symptoms of a cold.
Among the different means of treating colds is use of Echinacea although it is not the favored herb anymore for treating colds. Echinacea can be used to reduce symptoms of the conditions if taken when at the colds onset.
Latest findings in research do not prove that vitamin C, if taken in very large quantities can stem a cold. However if the patient takes in supplements of Vitamin C the colds duration will be reduced.
One should not be tempted to take Vitamin C in large quantities because it will go straight through their system. Elder berries feature among the most favored means of naturally healing colds. For generations, the berry has been used to cure colds and it is also known to contain influenzas growth.
For many years now, chicken soup has been known to reduce cold symptoms and patients should take it as soon as the symptoms come into play. In the chicken soup one should include celery, leek, garlic and onion. Garlic has special attributes that make it helpful and among them are immune boosting substances.
Latest research findings show that garlic can be able to reduce pain for the patient as well. One should always have ready chicken soup which they should keep frozen and ready for use when need arises.
Use of Andrographis is another means of preventing and reducing cold symptoms and is known to stimulate the patients immune system. Andrographis contains helpful qualities that can help reduce fever without upsetting the patients stomach.
Astragalus also offers another option and the the Chinese have been using it for many years. The herb is known to contain immunity building and pathogen fighting abilities. The patient can take the herd on a daily basis or as soon as they experience any symptoms.
When having a cold one should take supplements like antioxidant vitamins, Zinc of 50 to 100 mg and L-lysine of 500 to 1000mg ; an amino acid. The supplement should be taken at the onset of a cold outbreak.
One should also not have stress and try to get the needed rest. Healthy eating also comes in handy when counteracting a cold.
